Make a Difference in This Season of Giving

In 1986, a group of labor activists threw a holiday party for the families of striking workers. Hundreds of children participated in that first celebration and toy giveaway. Decades later, it’s an annual tradition open to the entire community, where thousands of children enjoy a day of games, food and gifts.

Working families are finally recovering from the Great Recession, but there are still many who will be struggling this holiday season. Here’s how you can help make this year’s Holiday Party a success:

Volunteer to Help. Every year UA Local Union 393 proudly has some of the largest turnout of volunteer union members who come and help with this tremendous event. Once again, we are looking for help for this great cause on December 18, 19, and 20. On Friday, December 18, 393 and other volunteers will be there from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. organizing the Fairgrounds Hall for the event. On Saturday, December 19, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., we will need help picking up toys from the Marines and organizing them at the fairgrounds. On Sunday, December 20 (the day of the event) we will have two shifts for members to help with security and parking: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Make a financial contribution to Working Partnerships USA. The generosity of unions and allies help support this special day. Tax deductible contributions can be made online at www.wpusa.org/hpdonate or sent to: Working Partnerships USA, 2102 Almaden Road, Suite 112, San Jose, CA 95125. Please note “Holiday Party” in the memo.

Donate toys and gifts. The Holiday Party especially needs gifts for teenagers. You can drop off gifts at Working Partnerships USA between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Spread the word! Please tell families about the event. Tickets and online registration can be found at www.wpusa.org/hp15
