Wed. 4/22 at 2pm: Tell San Jose City Council How We Can Safely Resume Construction

Dear 393 Members,

During these challenging times, we must demand that job safety and worker protections be implemented and not eroded. The City of San Jose has an online meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22, at 2pm, to discuss ideas on how to begin construction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you can participate by sending an email or speaking at the meeting, please see the information below.

In solidarity,
Steve Flores

Safely Resuming Residential, Public Works, and Commercial Construction in Santa Clara County

CALL TO ACTION!

This Wednesday, April 22, at 2pm, the San Jose City Council Rules Committee will discuss ideas on how to begin construction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Your voices must be heard!

We are asking that you log on, virtually attend, and speak about what we believe is necessary to safely resume work on residential, public works, and commercial development projects in Santa Clara County.

We believe that construction work sites must do the following to be allowed to resume work:

1. Abide by a public health department approved COVID-19 work site safety plan that includes, but is not limited to:

  • social distancing requirements;
  • supplying appropriate non-medical grade PPE for workers;
  • COVID-19 prevention signage throughout the work site;
  • daily pre-shift start temperature checks of workers;
  • daily pre-shift safety and sanitation briefings;
  • hand-washing stations throughout work sites; and
  • cleaning and sanitation requirements of restrooms, offices, and other work site locations;

2. Employer paid family health care coverage for all workers;

3. A countywide policy to resume construction that is public health-focused and puts worker safety before profits, not a piecemeal approach—one standard, approved by our public health professionals, for our county.
