Pipe Trades Training Center Is Hiring: Director of Training

Dear UA Local 393 Sisters and Brothers,

Due to Carl Cimino’s pending retirement in 2022, the Pipe Trades Training Center will be accepting applications and resumes for the position of Director of Training for the Loyd E. Williams Pipe Trades Training Center. 

The Director of Training provides the leadership, planning, organization, direction, coordination, and control to meet the profit, growth, and training objectives of the Pipe Trades Training Center. The Director of Training acts as the primary liaison for the Training Center with outside associations, organizations, and the community as a whole.

DUTIES

The Director of Training performs the following planning duties:

  • Oversees preparation of the annual business plan, with personal involvement in establishing objectives and strategies.
  • Coordinates preparation of the annual budget and presents the final version to the J.A.T.C. for approval.
  • Annually reviews and updates, as necessary, the Mission, Vision, and Operating Philosophy.
  • Reviews the Succession Plan and the associated training and development to ensure compliance in each department.
  • Reviews and revises personnel job related objectives and evaluates their achievement.
  • Coordinates the implementation of the approved marketing plan.

The Director of Training performs the following organizing duties:

  • Supervises preparation of the Functional Organization Chart and approves the final version. Schedules and monitors annual reviews of the Chart to insure its viability.
  • Reviews all Job Descriptions to insure currency and review by the appropriate manager.
  • Reviews and approves all Training Center policies and procedures to ensure compliance with goals and objectives approved by the J.A.T.C. 

The Director of Training performs the following managing duties:

  • Periodically reviews all financial records and audits Training Center assets. Takes corrective measures as needed to ensure a sufficient level of control and protection over company assets.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the state and federal government rules and regulations as they pertain to the activities of the Training Center and personally observes compliance with these requirements.
  • Reviews training records, timecards, OJT information and other correspondences and J.A.T.C. mandated actions for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Reviews and approves all quality, productivity, and educational standards as prepared by those in a direct reporting relationship. Monitors the implementation and enforcement of these standards in all departments.
  • Reviews and approves all operating reports from Department Heads to ensure compliance with established company policy, goals, and objectives.
  • Participates or appoints the appropriate personnel to represent the Training Center at industry associated functions and events.
  • Regularly reviews selected sources for new and/or innovative techniques in the pipe trades field. Regularly solicit Department Heads for similar information.
  • As Equal Opportunity Officer the Director will take the necessary steps to investigate conduct in violation of the anti-harassment & anti-discrimination policies.

 The Director of Training performs the following communication duties:

  • Chairs meetings for all management personnel to disseminate information and solicit feedback regarding current and future company operations.
  • Personally, reviews and approves all written communication of company policy and procedures to insure its appropriateness and delivery.
  • Attends regular J.A.T.C. meetings and other subcommittee meetings as required. Creates meeting agendas, submits operational reports on the overall monthly activities of the Training Center, and presents items requiring approval.
  • Interfaces with industry groups including Plumbers, Steamfitters, and Refrigeration Fitters Local 393, the signatory contractors of Local 393, and members of the J.A.T.C. in order to provide an open flow of information to all parties of the industry.
  • Represents the Training Center and the pipe trades industry in the community and participates in other organizations locally, statewide, and nationally to promote apprenticeship and journeyperson training and the Pipe Trades Training Center.
  • Provides announcements to the industry and the community regarding apprenticeship applications.
  • Participate in trade shows, and other community related events to promote the services and results of the Pipe Trades Training Center.
  • The Director of Training performs the following motivation duties:
  • Personally inspect the work environment to insure it is free from distractions and/or hazards that would restrict the ability of the employees to perform.
  • Participates in the selection of staff and faculty.
  • Review and approve all performance evaluations with special note to employees’ performance that is consistently above standard.
  • Personally evaluate and review the performance of all management personnel in a direct reporting relationship. Participate in their goal setting process as a supervisor and a mentor.
  • The Director of Training performs other duties as necessary.
