POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Residential Plumber Coordinator is an at-will employee that reports directly to the Business Manager of UA Local Union 393. Primary job duties include but will not be limited to the following:
- Work with the organizer for the recruitment and dispatch of qualified residential plumbers in Santa Clara & San Benito Counties.
- Address all issues with Local Union 393 residential plumbers based on the Residential Market Recovery Labor Agreement.
- Conduct steward-training classes and assist with the appointment of stewards per the Master Labor Agreement or Residential Market Recovery Labor Agreement on all residential projects where residential plumbers are employed.
- Track, monitor and document data of all existing residential projects and jobsite visits of all residential projects on a consistent basis.
- Create and gather data regarding the outlook of future and proposed residential work with signatory and non-signatory contractors who perform residential work.
- Assist Business Manager and the negotiating committee with contract language and gathering of current residential wage rates from all Bay Area Locals.
- Build relationships with workers in our regional industry, perform worker outreach on and off jobsites, perform home visits, and track worker interactions and information in an organized fashion.
- Coordinate union organizing campaigns in sometimes stressful and hostile conditions.
- Perform outreach and hold discussions with employers, end users, public entities, faith-based organizations, and community groups on the value unions bring to the community.
- Work with the prevailing wage compliance department, gather data and assist with enforcing wage compliance on targeted projects.
- Work with Local Union 393 Training Center and assure all residential plumbers are notified when residential plumbing training is available. Create a database and track results.
- Assisting in the political campaigns of the Local when needed.
- Support and participate in the goals and work of UA Local 393’s “Campaign for a Secure Future.”
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Passion for and commitment to workers’ rights and the interest of our members, our organization and the Trade Union movement.
- Completion of UA Local 393’s apprenticeship program or other UA Labor Management Apprenticeship Programs (JATC) and/or having been organized into a UA Building Trades local. Experience with unions and of the construction industry desired.
- Highly organized, goal oriented and flexible with an ability to effectively adapt and change to evolving sets of circumstances.
- Self-motivated, creative, thoughtful, strategic and able to work with little direction and by oneself.
- Able to adapt and maintain professional composure in environments and situations that may be openly hostile to union representative.
- Honest and straightforward with excellent people skills.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Preferred computer skills in Outlook, Excel and Microsoft Word. Ability to enter data into a spreadsheet – Use formulas and functions for math and accounting. Ability to create formulas and functions- Create charts and diagrams- especially a Venn Diagram – Work with Excel templates – Use of cloud document sharing editing. Will train if necessary
- Knowledge of website development and social media a plus. Will train.
- Ability to work effectively with others and take instruction from senior leadership.
- Ability to effectively manage a workload with competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to perform research and put collected data into organized format.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to pass a background check.
- Spanish and/or other non-English language skills preferred.
The Coordinator will be an employee of UA Local Union 393 serving at will and at the direction of the Business Manager. The job is fast-paced with ongoing responsibilities and irregular hours, including some weekends and evening hours.
